About Walks & Pubs
Who, why and where?
Hi there, I’m Florian. I’m 41 years old and I like to walk. You’ve probably figured that out by now! But since you’ve chosen to visit the About page, I’ll tell you a little more about myself, why I started Walks & Pubs, and the area where I usually take my walks.
11 years ago, my wife and I moved to Bournemouth because she had found work here. It didn’t take long to realise that it’s quite a beautiful town, surrounded by some of the most stunning countryside.
As Bournemouth is in Dorset, a county that’s perfect for walkers like me, the first requirement for a YouTube channel called Walks & Pubs was already fulfilled. And let’s be honest: what better way to end a walk than a visit to a pub?
Me on a walk…
…and me in a pub!
A born walker
I grew up in a rural area of northwestern Germany where hiking is popular, and I suppose that’s one of the reasons why I still enjoy a good long walk in nature. This is also the place where I gained my first experiences working in hospitality and as a freelance journalist, both of which will hopefully help make a project like Walks & Pubs a success. If you’d like to find out more about my hometown, you can watch my Schmallenberg Upper Town to Old Town via Mount Wilzenberg video.
With my YouTube channel, I intend to showcase local footpaths, scenery, and interesting facts and stories about the areas along my routes. The channel isn’t supposed to be a pub or restaurant review channel. What I’d rather like to do is celebrate the English pub as an institution and as a great place to go – especially after a walk.
Many sights…
…are to be explored.
Bournemouth and Dorset
Bournemouth is a town of around 200,000 people on the English Channel. As mentioned earlier, it’s part of the county of Dorset in South West England, United Kingdom. Together with Poole to the west and Christchurch to the east, it forms a conurbation of roughly 410,000 inhabitants.
The town is known throughout Britain and beyond for its miles of golden sandy beaches. It also offers beautiful green spaces such as the Lower, Central and Upper Gardens, as well as plenty of activities for both locals and visitors.
Beyond this more densely populated area, Dorset remains largely rural – with rolling hills, valleys dotted with quaint towns and villages, forests, heathland and, of course, the dramatic coastline. There is still so much for me to explore.
Join me on my walks and subscribe to my YouTube channel. This way, you won’t miss any of my latest routes, discoveries and pub stops along the way.
I look forward to seeing more of this.
